About Hard Labor Creek State Park

Although it is the second largest state park in Georgia and known primarily for its 18-hole public golf course, which features what is described as "the hardest starting hole in Georgia," Hard Labor Creek State Park also offers a wide range of recreational opportunities in a beautiful wooded setting. Located between Madison and Covington, off I-20, on Georgia's historic Antebellum Trail, Hard Labor Creek is named after a small stream that cuts through the park and comes from enslaved people who once tilled the summer fields or from Native Americans who found the area around the stream difficult to ford. The 5,804-acre park, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2013, provides one of the state's best golf values, along with a pro shop, driving range, rental carts and special rates for seniors and children. The course is a favorite for its challenging layout and well maintained greens, the demanding first hole and the 14th hole with its signature water wheel, combined with a pristine, natural setting. In addition, the property features a lakeside beach that is popular with swimmers during the summer months and more than 24 miles of trails that are available for hikers, bikers and horseback riders. Horse owners even have their own private camping area near stalls. And other overnight guests can choose from fully equipped cottages or a modern campground. Other activities available are boating, canoeing, fishing, picnicking and birding.
