About Southern Colorado Outfitters
Southern Colorado Outfitters offers a guided western-style horseback hunting excursion into the Sangre de Cristo mountain range. Supporting a wealth of native wildlife including mule deer, big horn sheep, and black bear that roam freely through this vast, spectacular mountain range. The rugged remote country is home to many large herds of trophy class elk. Our goal is to provide you with the finest quality backcountry hunting experience within an atmosphere of relaxed western hospitality. We emphasize a genuine western style hunting experience and because elk are free-roaming and wide-ranging animal, there are no guarantees in a fair chase hunt. Your hunt may be affected by weather conditions as well as individual experience, physical condition, preparation, and shooting ability. Regardless of conditions, you will find our staff to be competent, friendly and knowledgeable while maintaining utmost concerns for your safety and welfare. BASE CAMP Our base camp is a traditional western hunting tent camp that includes a cook and dining tent, staff tents, guest tents, and a latrine tent. Tents are heated with either wood or propane stoves, are lit with lanterns, and contain cots with pads. Everything in camp is provided with the exceptions of your personal gear and bedroll. Our camp cook takes pride in providing meals that are wholesome and substantial. While breakfast and dinner are served ranch style, lunches are prepared as "sack lunches" to be carried on the hunt each day. Our base camp is located as close to good hunting as possible without disturbing the game. DROP CAMP We also offer a 9 day self-guided elk hunting excursion out of preset camps. The camps consist of a kitchen tent, sleeping tents, and a latrine tent. The tents are equipped with cots, lanterns, heaters, dishes and cookware. Hunters will need their personal gear, bedrolls, and food for the duration of their stay. We will pack hunters and their gear in and out of camp on horseback. Hunters will dress, quarter and hang their meat out of reach of bears. Contact our packers will be done via radio to pack out any harvested game. Horses will not be left in camp. All hunting of a self-guided excursion will be done on foot. Their is a 4 person minimum and 6 person maximum for a drop camp hunts. With first class tack, equipment, and a well maintained string of gentle, trail-wise mountain horses let us guide you through a remarkable hunting experience! Public land hunts are in the Pike and San Isabel National Forests, as well as BLM land and are administered through the San Carlos Ranger District. Hunting is primarily conducted in unit 85. Southern Colorado Outfitters, Inc. is an equal opportunity employer and provider.Reviews
